The VUB spin-off Konligo was established in April 2018 and obtained its exploitation licence from the VUB in April 2019. It is the result of more than 15 years of research on innovative lightweight and transformable structures led by prof. Niels De Temmerman and prof. Tine Tysmans at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). In January 2017, after the PhD of Aushim Koumar, the team decided to go to the market with the academic expertise in scissor structures. The project was financially supported by the VUB and Innoviris – the Brussels Institute for the encouragement of scientific research and innovation – with seed subvention money of 539k to bring this technology closer to market. Other programs like Start-it @ kbc, Bryo, BECI and HUB supported the project through expertise, workshops, trainings, etc. Two years later, the Konligo team – existing of 6 persons – has found the niche market where its technology can have an important added value: the indoor and outdoor event industry (fairs and B2B events).

Konligo participated to our third matchmaking session @Hub.Brussels on the 28th of October and recently raised approx. 400 000 EUR in equity through investments by Trividend and the crowdfunding platform Lita.co, and received a grant of 80 000 EUR from BeCircular. With this funding, Konligo expects to have its growth ambitions covered for the next two years. It allows them to develop new products, and scale up their production. Furthermore, it allows Konligo to offer faster service to their clients and enhance client interaction.
